Today, people from across Australia have come together to celebrate National Mining and Related Industries Day 2025.
First launched in 2013, the day serves as an annual reminder of the enormous contribution our mining and related industries make to our country.
Mining is essential to Australia. It is a major contributor to national income, investment, high-wage jobs, exports and government revenues and is at the forefront of underpinning our living standards.
Over the decade 2014-15 to 2023-24, the industry contributed to $2.9 trillion in resources export revenue, $268 billion in mining wages, $227.5 billion in company taxes, $167 billion in royalties, and generated 21 per cent of the economy’s growth.
The royalties and company tax paid from mining has been critical for governments to afford services and infrastructure like health, schools, and hospitals.
The mining industry is also renowned for being at the forefront of innovation and one that our regional communities rely on – building and sustaining many country towns, and offering employment in remote areas.
National Mining and Related Industries Day is also a call to action – a reminder that we must speak up for our essential industry.
So, let’s continue to champion our industry. Because when mining does well, Australia does well.
